Land acknowledgment: We acknowledges the University’s origins through an 1817 land transfer from the Anishinaabek, the Three Fires People: the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Bodewadami as well as Meskwahkiasahina (Fox), Peoria, and Wyandot. We further acknowledge that our university stands like almost all property in the United States, on lands obtained, generally in unconscionable ways, from indigenous peoples. We remain committed to understanding and acknowledging the impacts of colonial practices in our immediate communities, and hope to work alongside indigenous students, faculty, and staff to build not only a centralized Land Acknowledgement, but a centralized practice of indigenous respect & restorative justice initiatives and programming on campus.

Enslaved Peoples' Labor Acknowledgment: We recognize, acknowledge, and affirm the historic and contemporary solidarities and intersections between Black and Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge the extraction of brilliance, energy, and life for labor forced upon people of African descent for more than 400 years. As an organization, we are dedicated to advancing solutions that promote equality, dismantle oppressive systems, and uplift the voices and experiences of marginalized communities. We understand that acknowledging the labor of enslaved peoples is an essential step in addressing the historical and present-day injustices that continue to shape our society.

We carry our ancestors within us, and we are continually called to be better. We commit to dismantling racism in spaces of our work. We invite you to work beside us to create change.

Anti-racism Commitment: Committing to anti-racism is also a priority of my own and my coalition’s. I genuinely believe that if we do not commit to anti-racism, we follow the notion, and the norm of simply not being racist is enough. In today's society, anti-racism is the only answer to ensure that our students of traditionally marginalized backgrounds are not falling subject to not only racism but prejudice and microaggressions.

Affordability:

  1. Work with Michigan’s Residence Hall Association to help recommend affordable housing. Also, work with Student Life on their new dorms on campus and find ways to improve student life as it pertains to housing.

  2. Recognizing the growing need for students to have access to digital resources that allow them to improve their opportunities and well-being and excel in a digital academic setting if elected, I will pursue partnerships with organizations to subsidize student use of these platforms.

  3. Additionally, in partnership with United for Michigan, I believe the appointment of a Student Renting Coordinator is pivotal to curbing the affordability problem we are seeing. For more information, please see page four of the Party Platform.

Accountability:

  1. We must hold our elected representatives accountable for campaign promises and ensure that we consistently represent the students who elected us. Also, ensuring that transparency is part of constant communication is at the forefront of this campaign and administration.

Accessibility:

  1.  CSG has historically been a predominantly white space, and I have tried to change that in my time there. Greater efforts could be made to make CSG a more accessible and welcoming organization for students of color to participate in and to create a space for all students to have their voices uplifted.

  2. Greater public engagement. CSG cannot address the concerns of students if it never hears those concerns. United for Michigan will strive to increase student-CSG communication by actively attending student organization events and regularly tabling in public locations on campus, providing students a direct outlet to express concern over university or CSG policy.

Sustainability:

  1. Hydration stations are a proven success, so let's invest more in this programming endeavor.

  2. Meet with sustainability leaders on campus and hear first-hand what we, as a government, can do to partner and create a more sustainable campus.
